Slow Art
Looking at art can be a mindful practice. By taking the time to look closely, we are compelled to slow down, focus on the artwork in front of us, and reflect on how it affects us. This act of attentiveness encourages deeper contemplation and engagement. Paying attention helps us think more deeply and connect with the art.
The videos below are part of an ongoing project in celebrating Slow Art Day, an annual international event that encourages a more deliberate, thoughtful approach to experiencing and looking at art. They offer a chance to pause, observe, and immerse yourself in art in a more meaningful way.
Amid our fast-paced lives and rapid image consumption, these videos serve as an invitation to embrace stillness, reflection, and connection—with the artwork and with yourself. This mindful approach provides a much-needed antidote to the fast pace of modern life, encouraging us to rediscover the beauty of looking slowly.
Just press PLAY and the video and session will start immediately. Nothing else is needed to enjoy a moment of art and mindfulness. But if you wish - contact me and I will send you a print of the artwork in one of the videos. For free! All I ask for, is for you to share your experience with me and others.
"To view art slowly is to take the time to be fully present and to initiate a meaningful conversation between one's own mind and heart and that of the artist." —Jiawen, Rubin Museum docent
